Review: Sooner Dead - A Gamma World Novel

Happy New Year to all!  I have been having a blast here in New York and have just had enough time to write up a little something to begin the new year with. Having read this novel many moons ago, I decided to reread the novel and I realized how good it really was.  I am now going to share my opinion with you.

As I review this book, I will attempt to keep it spoiler-free so you can pickup your own copy and read it yourself.

Gamma World is new to me in the 4th Edition setting.  I have neither heard nor played it in the past.  When the Gamma World game came out I decided I wanted to buy it.  I am glad I did.  It was so much fun, which leads me to the first Gamma World novel I have read.

I cannot stress how much enjoyment I got from reading the book.  For those of you who have not read or do not know about this post apocalyptic book, will find an easy yet satisfying read.  It is well worth the money.

The novel starts off mysteriously, and we get a cool look at our protagonists right from the start.  There is nothing more annoying than an author who takes half the novel to introduce than main characters.  The book introduces us to Hella, a morpher who can change her hands into weapons of various sizes and caliber.  Her partner, Stampede is a 8-9 foot Bisonoid (seems like a post-apocalyptic minotaur).

Hella and Stampede are both experienced guides.  They are currently escorting a party in search of an object of which they know nothing about through the almost endless desert they call the Redblight (the name for the desert in post-apocalyptic Oklahoma). The group they are escorting are not all they seem to be.

Confusion erupts, people are trying to kill them for something they know nothing about.  The group leader is leaving them in the dark; something they do not like.  Portals open; new creatures come into the world and there is even a little romance?

I highly recommend this book. It is a fantastic read and I wish someone would write some more of this type of novel.  I do not see any coming anytime soon. A pity.
